ABOUT THE WONDERFUL topmac COCKAPOOs

Please Note: A SPOODLE is a generic name for any Spaniel that has been crossed with a poodle, whether it be a Springer, a Clumber, a King Charles or a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. If someone advertises SPOODLES for sale they may not necessarily be COCKAPOOS.

If you are planning to bring a Cockapoo puppy into your family, there are a lot of things to consider before doing so. Cockapoos are people dogs, they crave company and need to be with their family so try to arrange your life at the early stages so that your puppy will not be left alone for more than a couple of hours at a time for the first weeks after you bring him/her into your home. He/she will need training in many areas of his/her life and if he/she is trained properly will become a wonderful family addition that will adjust easily to your lifestyle.

There are many great advantages in owning a cockapoo not least of which is that they are very hypoallergenic dogs, this means that people who have an allergy to dog dander (which is what triggers the allergic reaction in sensitized humans) can live compatibly and closely with a cockapoo and not be bothered with allergic symptoms at all.

The hypoallergenic characteristics of the cockapoo comes from the poodle contribution to its gene pool, poodles are the lowest of producers of dander in the dog world and this trait carries on into the cockapoo overriding any contribution from the cocker spaniel.

Likewise from the poodle the cockapoo gains the benefit of not shedding or emitting the typical "doggy odour", these are dominant characteristics from the poodle that override the cocker spaniel.

Cockapoos are highly intelligent, very quick to learn commands and make wonderful family pets, they crave human company and do not like being left alone for long periods of time. They are very tolerant of children but must be allowed to have their own space where they can go when they are tired, please bare in mind that they are living things and not toys.

Grooming a cockapoo is quite simple, they only require basic brushing and combing to maintain a well groomed look - once a week will suffice.

Clipping the cockapoo can be done with either scissors or clippers, if using clippers we suggest a long blade/comb attachment to leave the coat at least an inch and a half long, if you are going to take your dog to a grooming salon ask them to clip your cockapoo in a "Puppy Cut" even for an adult cockapoo.

Cockapoos tend to have far fewer health and genetic problems than their parents which is due to what is known as Hybrid Vigour.
